Alberta’s UCP government passed Bill 47 during the pandemic in 2020. It rewrites the province’s Occupational Health and Safety Act and amends its Workers’ Compensation Act. Among other things, the changes reduce protections for psychological health and safety under the pretense of “reducing red tape”. Sharon highlights some key changes. She also makes a case for employers and workers alike to continue championing mental wellness at work, including with the use of surviving legal tools to promote and enforce psychological health and safety obligations in Alberta workplaces.
